4th time back to Speed-this dude ain't happy

Todd told me to take the cover off when I was going to St. Anthony. It ran around 145 for the 30 minutes my CV boot lasted.
Taking the CVT cover off is dumb. You'll lose the CVT clutching support and welcome all types of debris. Might as well throw in a bunch of steel wool and sandpaper at that CVT.

Tons of people run without covers in the dunes. The cover helps support the clutches but the clutches aren't reliant on them to operate correctly.

Just because "tons of people" run with a cover off doesn't mean it's the correct or a good thing to do. I used to run without a CVT cover as well until I saw how much damage the Glamis sand did.

No, just means its not the end of the world if you run without a cover.
I know anybody else who originally bought in bought this car as a base platform for mods to be performed on. It needs to be done right as RG has bragged about for 4 years now. And it is or could be a catastrophic failure running cover less. It'll cause premature wear and tear on the primary and secondary clutches as well as friction on the belt from sand in return a blown belt and stuck in the middle of the dunes.

I would be most concerned about bearing side load.
Both shafts were designed to be supported on both ends and now removing one end of support could be catastrophic.

I don't think that's true. The cover helps, but is not necessary to support the loads.
You must NOT have watched the early videos.
RG clearly mentioned this cover is designed to support the outside bearings.
Will it work without the cover, sure, but for how long?

I did. I watched every video, some multiple times. From what I understand, the clutches will work fine without the cover.
The clutches will work fine, I am talking about the shafts that the clutches ride on.

Yeah the shafts will be fine. If the shafts failed, obviously the clutches would fail. The shafts don’t need the cover. The clutches don’t need the cover.

It’s a belt and suspenders thing. The cover is the suspenders. Don’t need them if you are wearing a belt, but doubles it up if you are worried.

Sounds like you have everything all figured out.
Let us know how it works out for you.
Worst case if the shafts fail in the first 6 months you can re-install the cover and say you never removed it.

Never mind the shafts, it is the distortion of the alignment between engine and transmission, the added load on the belt from the distortion.
And the added loading on the shaft bearings... and so on...
